We need a functionality that enables to see what current projects use what template. Currently, this only works in one way. If you click on a project you can see which template it uses. The other way around does not yet exist: We would like to go into the project templates and see the list of projects that currently use it.

Is this about the Space Template or the Metadata Schema that is used? (Or both!). Because you might already be able to do this.
Space Template
When a project is created from a Space Template we log an event on the Space Template AND the Project.
From More Info / Events you can view an event trail for a Space Template that also shows all projects created as a copy from that Space Template.
Metadata Schema
You can get from a Metadata schema to all Spaces using it as a Schema admin using the "Find Associated Spaces" action.
Do either of those mechanisms meet your requirements?
