Edit functionality

We are currently using the compatibility viewer option in IE Mode in Edge to enable the continued use of the edit functionality. This is used across the company by staff, contractors and clients to enable them to quickly update spreadsheets. This can be in a similar format to the ProjectWise check in/out function.

Practical use of functionality?

This is useful to maintain the audit trails, all documentation in one CDE and prevent duplication.

What is the impact of not doing this?

The work around is to lock, download, update, save, upload/unlock the document and for each one will add in 5 mins plus the training and support for people to know how to action. The risk is people don't unlock the document.

The company don't carry out any more upgrades or even look to change provider in future to a product that can offer a similar functionality.

We really need to have an alternative solution to File Monitor to enable us all to edit documents. Locking, downloading, uploading and unlocking just provides more opportunities for errors (wrong documents etc being uploaded, files left unlocked) and is really taking a step backwards in having lean and forward thinking solutions to use.

    Hi Claire,

Thank you for logging this idea. The BCDE File Monitor depended upon ActiveX which has now been dropped in a browser's standard mode. Any project to replace this will need to take an alternative approach.

The requirement for a client side installation also made the File Monitor more difficult to deploy across a large supply chain because it would require authorisation from an IT department. It would be good to account for this challenge in any replacement.

    Best regards, Paul Houghton...
